Hello!
I am on my way to the airport but I wanted to quickly kick off the series that will be running while I’m out of town! I am often asked about the variability of traits that exist within a Zodiac sign. Why are April Taurus so different from May Taurus? Why is every Capricorn I know so different from each other? The answer is Decans and I will be breaking down each of the three Decans in a series of upcoming posts.
Decans are one way astrologers break each zodiac sign into smaller, more specific parts. Each sign spans 30 degrees, and decans divide that into three equal segments of 10 degrees. These segments are not just based on time, but also on planetary and inter-element rulership. This means each decan carries its own flavor, influenced by a secondary planet and shared-element Zodiac sign that shapes how the sign expresses itself.
Some astrologers divide signs into weeks instead, looking at the sign as it plays out across the calendar. While that can be useful for tracking transits or planning, decans are different. They're based on degree, not date. Decans reflect symbolic structure, Zodiac element influence, and planetary influence, not just time on a calendar.
This series will look at each decan in its own right, not as a mini-version of the whole sign but as a piece of the sign’s full complexity. If you've ever wondered why you don't fully relate to your sun sign, exploring your decan might be the missing piece.
See you next week for Decan One!

Everything I'm packing for two weeks in Scandinavia
Next week I’ll be traveling to Europe for a two-week trip with my husband and son. We’re planning to eat as many pastries as possible, go hiking, swimming, sauna-ing, and hopefully soak up some much-needed relaxation. With the weather ranging from 45 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, I definitely had my work cut out for me…
The Three Modalities
Understanding how the energy of your personality is expressed is one of the most valuable studies Astrology has to offer. The Modalities; Cardinal, Fixed, and Mutable; describe how signs initiate, stabilize, and adapt to life’s constant flux. Learning your modalities can be just as revelatory as knowing your sun sign. Maybe even more.
Saturn, Death, and Charli XCX
I remember the day Saturn moved into Pisces. I was anticipating my Saturn return, but I swear I felt the shift the moment it happened. The past two years have catalyzed drastic changes in my life and while those changes felt tumultuous at the time, they pushed me towards hard-earned stability. I am more grounded in myself now and I am grateful for every…
