Next week I’ll be traveling to Europe for a two-week trip with my husband and son. We’re planning to eat as many pastries as possible, go hiking, swimming, sauna-ing, and hopefully soak up some much-needed relaxation. With the weather ranging from 45 to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, I definitely had my work cut out for me when it came to packing. Read on for my vision board process and everything I’m bringing in my carry-on for two weeks overseas!
My Vision Board
I spent a lot of time sourcing inspiration photos for this trip—partly because I was sick in bed when we booked it, but also because I knew I’d want to feel both well-dressed and weather-prepared. Packing for a trip with that kind of temperature range can be tricky! The outfits I was most drawn to were versatile enough to be dressed up or down and featured layers that could be shed as the weather changed. This board became my North Star as I began choosing items from my own closet!
The standard rules apply:
Layering and outfit versatility is necessary
Everything I bring needs to work well with everything else
Pack for the activities I have planned—not the outfits that look cute in photos
Everything I’m Packing
Plane Outfit
I recently adopted a pair of Lunya silk-blend sweatpants from a friend, and not only are they super comfortable, but they’re also structured enough to be my go-to “travel-friendly” pants. I’ll be wearing them with a long-sleeve t-shirt and my FP Movement fleece jacket for the flight.
Backpack
My number one packing goal for this trip is to not overpack my backpack. Carrying a heavy bag from city to city has ruined my back on too many past trips. This time, I’m cramming non-essential toiletries into my suitcase and skipping physical books (RIP!) to save my spine. Here’s what’s making the backpack cut:
In-flight necessities (face wipes, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, moisturizer, chapstick, hair brush, hand sanitizer, hand lotion)
Kindle
Noise-canceling headphones
Tevas (unless I can cram them into my suitcase!)
Snacks (Chomps, nut butters, etc.)
Chargers and converters
AirPods
Change of clothes
Laundry detergent sheets
