Summer flew by. We got to travel abroad again after two years at home and more importantly, we got to do it with our new addition, baby Liam. I’ll admit that my life has been a whirlwind of packing and unpacking, planning and recuperating. Somewhere along the way, I lost the practices that keep me grounded.
As we shift seasons, I’m looking to get back into a routine so I can indulge in my home and reincorporate my spiritual routine. To me, the spirit of Fall lies in elevating the present moment and seeking gratitude. Keep reading for the updates I’ll be making to optimize my day-to-day life so I can make room for the things that really matter.
Find my flow
After much trial and error, I’ve realized that I do best when I can ease into my day with a slow morning, followed by a late morning workout. I wake up between 6 and 7 am (completely dependent on my alarm clock AKA Liam), light a candle, make coffee, put on this playlist, and lounge around on the floor while Liam plays. I enjoy every moment of it without worrying about tackling my to-do list. Household chores are reserved for midday when I have the most physical energy, and work is done in the afternoon. I want each day to feel in flow so that I can be productive and focused on living well. My Mars is in Pisces, what can I say?
It takes a lot of trial and error to figure out when you’re most naturally inclined to do specific activities and tasks but I firmly believe that our Mars placements hold the answers!
Break down household chores into smaller tasks
I used to set myself up to fail with unattainable to-do lists. I would stress about completing each task only to feel defeated at the end of the day when I couldn’t. It sucked all of the joy out of my days and actually led to less getting done.
My goal instead is to break down tasks by areas of my home and focus on one area each day. Some rooms are easier than others, and I choose them on days when I’m feeling less motivated. The other tip that has changed my life for the better (a la Sarah Therese) is doing one load of laundry every day. Just one. No more dreading laundry day.
Here’s what it looks like:
Elevate each moment
One of my favorite things about Fall is how much we elevate everything. Lounging on the couch at night turns into a themed movie night complete with cozy blankets, a warm drink in a beautiful mug, and a spiced candle. Our morning coffee becomes an exciting adventure of pumpkin-flavored syrups and creamers. Opportunities arise everywhere to indulge in the season.
I love the idea of bringing this concept to my daily routine. I’ll be putting my favorite fall movies and shows on in the background while I clean (namely this one and this one), visiting some new coffee shops on the weekends (I’m most excited about Barrett’s coffee), and updating my living room with new blankets and pillows. I’m loving this color blocked pillow and the earthy color of this cotton throw blanket. Â
