Treat your birthday like your new year
Plus the simple thing I like to do for friends on their birthday
Hello and Happy Sunday!
This past Thursday was my birthday, which genuinely felt like a rebirth after being sick most of March. After years of treating my birthday as a stressful event (shoutout to the younger me who would leave her own birthday parties,) I have figured out a “formula” that helps me embrace my birthday as my own personal new year. Astrologically speaking, the Sun arriving back to the position it was in at the time of your birth is meant to imbue you with energy. The Sun dictates your willpower, vitality, and outwardly-directed energy. Your Solar Return (birthday) is an opportunity to find alignment with your sense of purpose. Birthdays are so cool when you think about them in that way!

How I honor my Solar Return
Call me “woo woo,” but I really do feel a burst of creative energy around my birthday. I would describe the feeling like a gentle nudge back to alignment. The best way for me to soak up what the universe is trying to tell me is to disengage from distractions to quiet my mind, and listen. This year, I booked an infrared sauna appointment and enjoyed thirty-plus minutes of silence. It gave me a chance to relax and let my mind wander to places that I don’t always allow it to. In other words, I put myself in a position to receive and I feel a deep sense of clarity around my purpose and intentions for this year.
How I celebrated

In addition to doing something to put myself in a place of receiving, I love an excuse to celebrate with friends and family! I had a wonderful birthday dinner with friends on Wednesday, made one of my favorite meals (lasagna lol) to celebrate with my family on Thursday, and got together with friends for a “woo woo” brunch on Saturday. It was a week full of my favorite things with my favorite people, and I’m feeling so grateful <3
The simple thing I do for friends on their birthday
One of my New Year’s intentions is to acknowledge my favorite things about my friends in a text on their birthday. It’s not always long or too gooey, but I love sharing what I admire most about someone on their birthday. We can all be so hard on ourselves, and birthdays are a wonderful opportunity to tell someone why you think they’re great!
Thanks for reading! On Tuesday, I’m going to be talking all about Aries. If you are an Aries, or have one in your life, buckle up!
