“Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better.”- Maya Angelou

Wouldn’t it be nice if we could skip all of the messy mistakes and walk into life as our most-evolved selves? I know I’m not the only one who looks back on past mistakes, wishing I could choose differently. However, mistakes, and the pain they cause, are our biggest motivators for growth. They are a natural part of being a human and provide the shock necessary for self-evaluation, learning, and change.

In researching an upcoming post about mistakes and regret, I stumbled on this advice column from The Guardian, in which the writer is reflecting on her past behavior and wondering how to move on. I felt touched by her honesty and warmed by the compassion Eleanor Gordon-Smith gave her. Gordon-Smith leaves her with this, “Trust [in] your ability to face those consequences with the grace and courage you learned from making mistakes in the first place.” It reminds me of a quote from Voltaire’s Treatise on Toleration in which he says, “We are full of weaknesses and errors, let us mutually pardon each other our follies.” It is only when we accept our mistakes that we can grow from them.

Our errors serve as a North Star for who we want to become. Jupiter, the planet of expansion and growth, might not be a planet you would associate with mistakes, but it’s energy is where we receive the wisdom and optimism to move forward and learn from our experiences. Jupiter believes in our capacity to do better and become our most-evolved selves. Our Jupiter placements are the key to understanding what we are meant to learn in this lifetime and where we need to grow.

I hope this curriculum gives you hope. When you feel stuck or frustrated with yourself, when the mistakes feel painful, remember that you have the capacity to expand.

This curriculum includes:

  • Descriptions of each Jupiter Sign (the Zodiac Sign Jupiter was in when you were born)

  • Descriptions of each Jupiter House (the House Jupiter was in when you were born)

  • A ‘Putting Together the Pieces’ section that helps you understand how Jupiter relates to the other placements we’ve studied so far (Sun, Rising, Moon, Mercury, Venus, and Mars)

Welcome to the Seventh installment of my Curriculum Series! An invitation to go back to the basics and understand each planet’s significance in your Astrological Chart. By studying each planetary placement, you’ll piece together a comprehensive understanding of your personality.

Quick Notes

Like I mentioned in the previous curriculums, I have condensed the curriculums to feature the Zodiac Signs and House placements. You guys know the drill by now, but you can still reference my posts on the Elements, Qualities, and Ruling Planets if you need a refresher :)

Jupiter in the Zodiac Signs

Jupiter in Aries

Adventurous and ambitious, your enthusiasm is infectious and you have the capacity to garner support in your endeavors. Learning to harness your energy is important for your growth. Your assertive energy can border on reckless, and your love of freedom can be wielded selfishly. Learning more about the things that interest you, and adopting a thoughtful attitude will yield beautiful results.

Jupiter in Taurus

Enjoying your life is your greatest motivator. You strive to financially support the lifestyle you want, one that is full of comfort, entertaining, and quality. You are dependable and genuine and live life to the fullest. Fear around your attachments is a life-long fixation for you. Your love of the good things in life can tip over to dependence if you don’t foster a deeper spiritual connection to them.

Jupiter in Gemini

Your capacity for understanding is broad. You have a natural love for information and connection and rely heavily on your cleverness. Learning to go deeper with topics will help you avoid restlessness and shallow opinions. You find that when you invest true passion and commitment to an area of study you realize how powerful your mind is.

Jupiter in Cancer

Your intuition and emotions guide you through life, and while you often feel uncertain about your opinions, you know how things make you feel. Learning to trust your instincts is your greatest expander. When you have faith in yourself, you make shrewd decisions and create luck.

Jupiter in Leo

Your enthusiasm for life is unmatched. Your energy is infectious and you have the potential to inspire people and pass on your skills. Sometimes plagued by an uncomfortable sense of urgency, you feel that every moment needs to be lived to the fullest which can cause you to become dramatic and overwhelming, even bossy at times. Learning to pour your energy into meaningful pursuits and enjoy each moment without needing to overtake it will help you build a lasting, positive legacy.

Jupiter in Virgo

Your natural skepticism, analytical mind, and careful approach to life can be your greatest assets if you can push yourself to take the opportunities that come your way. It’s difficult for you to commit to life as courageously as you’d like. When you recognize how much you’ve already achieved and develop faith in yourself, your attention-to-detail and watchful eye lead you to success.

Jupiter in Libra

Charming, compassionate, easy-going, and kind, your positive traits seem endless, however you struggle to do something with them. You have a lot of fear and discomfort around challenging yourself, until you realize that your biggest expander is finding a partner to align with. When you team up with someone and work together to build something (whether it’s a relationship, business, or other effort) you realize how powerful your ability to support others is. And in turn, you begin to challenge yourself to do more to support the success of your shared endeavor.

Jupiter in Scorpio

You move through life with powerful force and emotional energy. Determined and willful, you give everything you have to your pursuits. This intensity can lead to emotional outbursts and burnout if you don’t exercise moderation. When you dedicate yourself to work you feel emotionally connected to, you recognize how to temper your intensity and work consistently.

Jupiter in Sagittarius

*Increased influence because Jupiter rules Sagittarius. I recommend reading the Sun in Sagittarius description as well, you might relate to it!

Your life path is characterized by a growth mindset. Blind optimism and recklessness become a positive outlook, carelessness becomes adventurous, blunt becomes honest. You are an eternal student, gracefully learning from your mistakes and becoming the best version of yourself.

Jupiter in Capricorn

Maintaining a good outlook on life is the key to your growth. You are innately determined and hard-working, but your tendency to become pessimistic can make you fixated on being right and feeling like it’s you against the world. Leaning into your sense of humor and looking for the good in life will help you. Focus on your process and the ambitions that drive you.

Jupiter in Aquarius

Finding an organization or group-effort for your talents to land is necessary for your personal growth. Your innate helpfulness, innovative gifts, and humanitarian sympathies belong in work for the public good. While you are very independent, your work will feel disconnected and less meaningful if it doesn’t serve a greater purpose. Lead with your sense of justice and care for the world.

Jupiter in Pisces

*Increased influence, traditional rulership

Caring, spiritual, and self-sacrificing, you are an amazing listener and love caring for people. When you are grounded in yourself and the work you do, you recognize your value and practice what you preach. However, your overactive imagination can make you unreliable and dishonest and you might lose yourself. You can also become too self-sacrificing, losing the connection to caring for others that keeps you motivated. Balance is the most rewarding life-lesson for you.

Jupiter Through the Houses

Remember that the Planet defines the energy, the Zodiac Sign defines how the energy is being expressed, and the House defines where in your life the energy is being expressed. Here are the guidelines for finding the house Jupiter is in within your natal chart:
