On March 30th, Neptune entered Aries for the first time since 1875, kick-starting a fourteen-year era of self-expression and assertive energy. Dreamy Neptune rules our collective consciousness, and as it transits through Aries, we will all feel inspired to live with authenticity and stand up for what we believe in.
Analyzing this transit, Psychological Astrologer Jennifer Freed wrote, “This is a time for visionary leadership, spiritual activism, and creative rebellion guided by inner knowing. It’s an era for those brave enough to dissolve the illusions of inherited identities and forge authentic, soul-led paths.” Neptune in Aries will make it harder for all of us to repress who we really are, it will push us to fulfill the dreams that we’ve pushed to the side, and inspire us to take a stand when it really matters.
This is an exciting and disruptive event, one that I hope will inspire both personal and collective transformation. Continue reading for a breakdown of Neptune’s influence, the Zodiac sign Aries, and how Aries influences your chart if you have Aries placements.
The planet of dreams and disorder
Neptune’s energy is elusive and subtle. It’s like that gut instinct you’re never sure if you should trust or not. Neptune likes to gently nudge us in the right direction, allowing us to test the waters when we trust its influence as if it’s attempting to help us develop trust in our intuition.
Neptune transits can be enlightening and inspire self-compassion. However, they can also feel deceptive because Neptune energy is layered in subtlety. Neptune in Aries will ultimately test your faith in yourself, you may make some bold mistakes on your way to healthy expression and fulfillment of your ideals. I think we all need to embrace the mess and give ourselves and others grace as we navigate the changes we’re trying to make.
Describing Aries...
The best way to understand Aries energy is to remember that Aries is the first sign of the Zodiac, and is therefore assigned the “toddler” archetype. Aries, like small children, are curious, brave, impulsive, honest, tempestuous, excitable, active creatures who love to dream big and fall on their asses in the process. They are action-oriented initiators who enter every endeavor with a naïve enthusiasm that contributes to their shock and anger when things don’t go as smoothly as they were anticipating. Some misunderstand Aries to be impervious to roadblocks, but they are, in fact, deeply sensitive. Just like a toddler learning to walk becomes apprehensive to try again after a fall, Aries are always in a “start-and-stop” routine with their endeavors.
While Aries are typically enthusiastic, kind, and ambitious, they can also be impulsive, short-sighted, and frustrated. In combination with Neptune, Aries will attempt to pull out your ability to enact change and initiate dreams and will likely pull out a lot of less desirable traits in the process. In my opinion, the enlightenment you can reach on the other side of discomfort is worth the rocky moments. But I’m an Aries, so I could be biased ;)
Aries in your chart
Below, I am sharing descriptions for all Aries planetary placements. You can look up your natal chart here to see if you have any Aries placements. Please send this post to an Aries you know! This is work that I have honed over my twelve years of practicing Astrology, and I’m excited to be sharing it with you :)
Sun in Aries
Dynamic, high-energy, and practical, you know exactly what you are capable of and nothing can stop you from achieving your goals. Like a firework, your energy comes in huge bursts before fizzling out. One to take on a lot at once, it can be difficult for you to manage your workload when you start to burn out, and you can become irritable. Your quiet, alone time is crucial for you to unwind and let the fire go out completely so you can start the next day fresh. Those closest to you need to respect your boundaries and even encourage them so you can recharge and be the best version of yourself.
Blunt, childlike, and human, you’re the kind of person to put it all out there. Honest, sometimes to a fault, your opinions and reactions are never a secret. While you can be quick to anger and may offend people with your honesty, most people come to realize that you are not malicious but actually just unrestrained. Those who come to know you well appreciate your openness and complete acceptance of your flaws. You may even inspire people to be authentically themselves just like you are.
Independent and set in your ways, it can be difficult for you to find the right partner until later in life. You need the freedom to explore different career paths, travel, adventure, and make mistakes until you’re ready to fully commit your life to someone. For you, the ideal partner is self-sufficient, grounded, and patient; someone who can give you space when you need it, take on life’s challenges with you, and will let you tackle your work uninterrupted.
Rising in Aries
You live by an “act first, think later” mentality that often gets you in trouble, although you’re readily forgiven because of your friendly nature. To people who don’t know you well, you come across as energetic, assertive, and excitable. Activity is important to you and you often feel like you will sink into a lull if you lose your momentum. This results in a lot of projects that you start but never finish. It can be difficult for you to decide what you want to do in life and how you want to spend your time. You are happiest when you’re able to express yourself physically and work in a fast-paced environment.
People value your ability to react quickly, your honesty, and your thoughtful but straightforward approach to conflict. You have the unique ability to see every side of a situation, understand its nuances, and form an educated opinion. No matter how complicated the idea, you’re able to get to the root of it and understand it in its simplest form. This ability also translates to the people in your life and your loved ones coming to you when they want to feel understood without judgment.
Moon in Aries
Impatient and passionate, your emotions tend to dictate your life. When feelings come up for you, they demand to be felt, thought about, and addressed immediately. You may live in a cycle of feeling, determining your needs, and fulfilling your needs as soon as possible. You prefer instant gratification and may struggle to envision or plan for the future. While you can be extremist in your reactions, your outbursts (outward or inward) are usually short-lived as you like to get everything out of your system and move on quickly. While you may come across as temperamental, you thrive in conflict and are often bored in environments that are too calm.
Your independence and commitment to being yourself are admirable. You know how to make an impression in anything you do and give yourself fully to your pursuits. Once you desire something, it completely overcomes you, and nothing can stop you from getting it. While this trait is helpful when it comes to goals, it can be dangerous when it comes to purchases or dealings with others who want something different. Your charm and naiveté often get you what you want, especially because those who know you quickly realize that you are not manipulative or malicious.
Mercury in Aries
Decisive and fast-paced, you cover a lot of ground quickly. While you may favor instant gratification, you know how to get to the root of things and come up with a solution quickly. Confident, charming, and direct, you feel you owe everyone honesty and won’t waste time ‘beating around the bush’. You love trying new things, exercising your visions, and executing your idealistic view of life.
When you are on a mission, you prefer to lead and tend to take opposition or criticism personally. Fierce in the pursuit of your opinions, you can be defensive and even aggressive in an argument. It may seem like you haven’t thought things through due to how quickly you act, but you rely on your gut instincts and quick mind to help you come to conclusions. More than anything, you hate being forced to slow down.
Mars in Aries
Mars rules Aries, making this a very natural and powerful position. You are motivated by action and excitement. Your ability to power through and quickly react to anything that is thrown at you is inspiring, and no one would dare get in your way when you’re on a mission. The more you can direct your focus and energy, the more successful you’ll be. You have the innate ability to see things simplistically and rationally unpack any situation until you can see its root cause or meaning. In this way, though, you also like things to be black or white. For you, there is right or wrong, good or bad, true or false. You don’t like leaving room for a gray area.
While you may be quick to anger or aggression, you are a generally happy person, choosing to find solutions to conflict instead of dwelling on it. Your impatience causes frustration with people who are vague and indirect, as you prefer to have everything out in the open. Most of the time,e you are admired for knowing what you want and going for it.
Venus in Aries
In love, you are direct, charming, and childlike. You have no patience when it comes to getting a relationship started, preferring to jump right in and get everything out in the open. You require a partner who is honest, direct, and playful, as you don’t do well with mind-games or vagueness and prefer a fun and lively relationship.
Activity is important for your relationships to thrive. You love to get out and move with your partner, engaging in exercise, friendly competitions, and new adventures. While you prefer to take the lead in your relationships, it can be hard for you to be vulnerable. You hold your gentle side close to your heart, and it can almost feel like a weakness to show it. You would benefit greatly from a partner who knows how to gently pull that side out of you, inspiring trust and security.
Your independence and self-sufficiency are important to you, and you can be selfish at times. Slowing down and taking the time to work through issues will show you that conflict can be moved through quickly, and doesn’t need to be dwelled on for long. That being said, you would not do well with someone prone to resentment and holding a grudge. You need a partner who is as lighthearted as you and willing to get through conflict quickly and efficiently.
Jupiter in Aries
You find the most success in life when you are enthusiastic about what you are doing. Never be afraid to take the lead and assert your opinions. You know better than anyone that you make your own opportunities in life.
Saturn in Aries
Conflict-avoidant and indecisive, you repress your more confident qualities in fear of confrontation or failure. Building courage and allowing yourself to be assertive is a lifelong pursuit for you, and each step you take helps you to feel closer to yourself. As you experience more in life, you realize that you are less capable of self-centeredness, and that you don’t need to hold back as much as you think you do.
Uranus in Aries
A natural rule breaker, you love to push boundaries, innovate, and seek freedom. You hate being restricted and require a lot of freedom in every area of your life. Deeply intuitive, you seem to change course on a whim, rebelling against any pre-established course of action. While you are often successful and blazing new trails, your impulsivity and impatience can get in the way of long-term contentment. Be wary of seeking unnecessary change out of sheer boredom.
Neptune and Pluto aren’t included in this list because they haven’t transited Aries since the 1800s!
