Four Sources of Inspiration
I sat down to write exactly five different newsletters this week to no avail... the words just weren’t coming. I’ve been consuming a lot lately- discovering fantastic Substack writers, reading suggested articles, delving into new books, and keeping up with the latest films (do you guys want my Astrological take on ‘Don’t Worry Darling’? because I can’t stop thinking about it)
I’m defining my current state of being as an ‘absorption state’ which clearly doesn’t jive with an ‘expressive state’. So in lieu of a long-winded exploration into my brain, I thought I would share a few things that have recently inspired me.
I hope you enjoy it and maybe take this as a reminder that sometimes it’s best to take the pressure off of yourself.
Five Seconds Flat by Lizzy McAlpine
A perfect album, in my estimation, that completely transported me into the visuals McAlpine’s lyrics provoke. Ideal for playing at full volume whilst simultaneously cooking dinner, baking, and cleaning your house.
If for some reason, you haven’t seen this show, I insist that you stop reading this right now and watch it on Netflix (the current season is airing weekly on Fridays). This show possesses a magical ability to blend high-stress baking, comedy, and heartfelt moments. The comradery alone will have you crying every episode.
The description of the Maybe Baby newsletter says it all – “Chipping away at the inscrutability of modern life, popular culture, and how we feel about both.” Nahman’s writing is impeccable and it’s inspiring me to become a better writer.
Home Décor (in general)
There’s something exciting and escapist about perusing home décor online or in person. I, for one, get lost in the act of defining my personal style, planning my dream home, and becoming meticulous about the details of design. I recently visited ReDid in Marble Falls and have been on a home design spiral ever since. I’ve loved flipping through House Beautiful magazine, researching color palettes and textures, and watching home renovation videos on YouTube. I’m dying to visit Maaribu in Austin, has anyone been?
