We just returned from the most heartwarming trip celebrating Liam’s third birthday in Austin. Between visiting our favorite places, watching Liam play with friends he hasn’t seen in over a year, and sneaking in quality time with Zak, my cup is full.
Read on for everything we did, my favorite places in Austin, and everything I packed for the trip.
Friday

Zak and I snuck out for a coffee date at Flat Track while Liam was enthralled with the toys my mom had out for him. Afterward, I went for a run around Town Lake. My mom and grandmother picked me up, and we ran errands to prepare for Liam’s birthday party.

After sweating over a three-tier birthday cake, I quickly got dressed for dinner at Uchiko. (Trust me and order their signature margarita, the Hama chili, and the Chicken Karage.) My parents picked me up from dinner to watch my brother’s band, Chameleon Dog, play at Cherrywood Coffeehouse. A few friends met me there and we concluded our night at Ramen Tatsu-Ya.
Saturday

Started our day with another coffee date, this time at Fleet and Figure 8. The rest of the day was spent celebrating with family and friends.
Sunday

One more coffee date! We ordered basically everything off the menu at Desnudo, a new-to-us coffee truck set in a circle of food trucks with tables in the middle. The environment was fun and quintessentially Austin. Stopped in to have lunch at Loro before heading to the airport. (If you visit Loro, go with a group and order a frozen gin and tonic with every food item on the menu.)
Everything I Wore

- Black Assembly Label Jeans
- White Assembly Label Jeans
- White T-shirt from Necker Coffee in Boise
- Grey Cashmere Sweater
- Green Sezane Top
- Vintage Vivienne Tam blouse
- JCrew Pajamas
- Icebreaker running shorts
-Sports Bra
-Running Shoes
My go-to plane outfit:

- Loose-fitting jeans
- A lightweight T-shirt or tank top
- A lightweight sweater
- A coat (if you’re bringing one)
- A scarf that can double as a blanket
- Hat
- The bulkiest shoes you’re bringing
What’s in my carry-on
After years of using a backpack as my ‘personal item’, I’m officially converting to a large purse. It forced me to pack fewer clothes to make room for my toiletries in my suitcase and I was able to pack my on-the-plane essentials more efficiently.
- A small bag with all of my electronics (kindle, chargers, air pods, etc.)
- Noise-canceling headphones
- A book
- A small bag with snacks
- Hand lotion, chapstick, Zicam, supplements, and hand sanitizer in a zippered pocket
I also had enough room for my scarf and coat. Et Voila!
