I’m often asked how one can learn more about Astrology and I’m always wary to answer because there’s so much misinformation out there. Pop culture Astrology can be at best, limiting, and at worst, exploitative. This practice is so dear to my heart, I feel protective of it and everyone who expresses an interest in it. That being said, my own practice began with obsessive googling, reading, and blind exploration and I managed to navigate the sketchy advice and misinformation along the way! I thought I would offer some advice and resources for starting your journey with Astrology and teaching yourself.
This newsletter is packed! You may have to click ‘View Entire Message’ to read the entire thing if you’re reading via email.
I highly recommend you save this one to reference later, there are a lot of great resources in here. Let’s get to it!
Look up your chart
If you’ve never looked up your entire chart before, start with your planetary placements. You can then look up what each placement means (i.e. Moon in Capricorn.) From there, look up your house placements, moon phase, and your aspects. To go even deeper, you can look up your asteroid placements. You may find yourself excited and immersed in one area for a while, which is great! Follow your curiosity and take your time. Try not to let yourself become overwhelmed by how much there is to learn, the more you familiarize yourself with one area of your chart, the easier it will be to move on and understand the next.
Resources
Café Astrology offers simple, yet foundational descriptions of all planetary placements, house placements, aspects, and asteroids.
Astro Seek also offers detailed information about all of the placements in your natal chart. I particularly like their aspect descriptions.

Look up everyone’s chart
As you’re learning about your own natal chart, look up the charts of everyone in your life as well. Comparing your own chart information to that of your loved ones is a fascinating and easy way to learn about the significance of each planet, Zodiac sign, aspect, etc. It’s also just really fun to learn about someone through their chart! Talk to them about it as much as possible and Astrology will naturally become a part of most conversations you have with them.
From there, you can dive into synastry. Synastry is the comparison of two Astrological charts in which you look for specific angles between both planetary placements. Essentially, astrological compatibility.

Cover the basics
This is my third recommendation for a reason. I think it’s more fun and engaging to dive in and start looking up charts and interpretations and THEN learn the general information about each planet, Zodiac sign, aspect, asteroid, house, etc. At this point in your education, you’ll already be familiar with all of the names, so you’ll absorb the information much quicker and it will add more context to what you’ve already learned.

Look up current Aspects
Things are ALWAYS happening Astrologically. The planets are always moving and interacting with each other to create different energies. You can look up what’s going on at any given time and read up on it. Social media will often over-hype certain things, and I tend to disagree with that method. For example, Mercury Retrograde doesn’t affect everyone as heavily as social media would have you believe. Mercury may not even be a significant part of your chart! I recommend focusing on the planets that show up the most in YOUR aspect chart when you look at current astrological aspects.
