Happy Gemini Season!
Dynamic, stimulated, and full of change, Gemini season brings my favorite energy of the year. Gemini reminds us of what it was like to be a kid; full of wonder, ready to jump into our next interest or project without worrying about consistency or our long-term plans.
Somewhere along the journey to adulthood, we let go of our sense of wonder in favor of a straight path to success. We honed in on one interest so we could prove to universities that we were ready to be shaped and molded for our career paths. We found a major that will lead us to a stable career, gentle pushing hobbies, and new pursuits to lower tiers on our list of priorities. We became obsessed with productivity, carefully crafting our days to serve "success."
No wonder so many of us feel lost. No wonder so many people change careers, start side hustles, and quit successful jobs to follow the path less traveled. I majored in musicology and vocal performance, with a minor in performing arts management and a cognate in business. I have a distinct memory of my favorite professor asking our class to raise our hands if we take time to practice music just for fun. I was the only person who raised my hand. Since then, joy has been a critical element of everything I do.
Gemini season is the reminder to give time to your passions, your hobbies, and any exciting impulse that pops into your head. Without passion, we are aimless. If we don't have childlike excitement for our lives, we won't raise our hand when it comes time to answer the question, "Do you enjoy what you do, and would you do this for fun in your free time?"
