Understanding your Mercury placement

Hi Friends!
I spent a lot of time this week thinking about my relationship with social media. Over the last two years, I've mostly stayed away, finding the idea of creating content, engaging with followers, and putting myself on camera, completely exhausting. As I've spoken about in this newsletter before, social media largely makes me feel bombarded with things I should be learning, doing, and buying. It sucks the energy right out of me and makes me forget what I truly value in my life.
Thinking back to my college days, when Vine was hugely popular, I loved creating videos for the app. Constantly inspired by other creators, I was thinking of new ideas, filming them, and posting them freely. It sparked my creativity and gave me energy. No one was trying to sell me anything or make me question how I was living my life, people were just creating content for fun. Even with TikTok's similarities to Vine, I still leave the app with a list of recommendations and information to research and fact-check (is anyone else seriously concerned about the stories of cannibals inhabiting our national parks?!) I would love to go back to the days where we admired each other's creativity, gentle guidance, and ways of living without jumping on the market opportunity.
All of this must sound crazy coming from someone who is trying to grow a small business. I regularly question The Rational Astrologer's place on social media, pushing all of the "shoulds" on myself because "social media plays a huge role in growing businesses and not giving my time and energy to it is a mistake." While I would love to share my Astrology practice, offer guidance, and promote my business on social, I have to do it in a way that honors who I am, how I've set up my life, and my boundaries. I can't promote "living with intention" and "designing a life that is a true reflection of who you are," and then turn around and build a social media strategy that isn't a reflection of myself and my values.
Our Mercury placements can tell us a lot about our relationship with communication, sharing, and technology. Mercury is in Pisces in my chart, meaning my communication style revolves around intuitive connection, story-telling, long-winded conversations about all things considered taboo (shocking, right? haha,) and indulging in dreamy distractions. My thoughts aren't always organized, I don't have the energy for small talk or superficial content, and I often withdraw when I feel overstimulated (which is often.)
I think my Mercury in Pisces placement is the key to building a relationship with social media that inspires me (and hopefully you, too!) instead of draining me. In this newsletter, you'll find a blog post on how your Mercury placement can help you reevaluate your own relationship with content consumption. I hope it helps you honor your energy and your boundaries, so you can engage with accounts and post content that adds to your life because I truly believe that what we consume is what we become.
Enjoy today's newsletter and stay tuned for my evolving journey with content creation!
Sending you the biggest hug,
Ellen
